Responsible and sustainable tourism is a natural part of our daily operations. For us, many things are innate, intergenerational, and value-based. Respect for nature, traditions, and organic lifestyle is particularly important to us. Sustainability is also a guarantee of quality. Finns are surrounded by nature and have an appreciation for forests and lakes. Forests cover 72 percent of the land and there are 187,888 official lakes in Finland. The air and water quality is one of the best in the world. Nature is a significant source of wellbeing and the heart of Finnish identity.
We at Puukarin Pysäkki want to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy the magic of healthy, thriving nature. The North Karelian Tourism Association has awarded our hostess Anni Korhonen this year’s responsible tourism operator award. Our guesthouse is also involved in Visit Finland’s Sustainable Travel Finland pilot, which seeks frameworks and criteria for tourism operators in Finland so that responsible and sustainable tourism is realized in our industry.
